Who We Are

Athens Road Runners is a supportive community of runners of all ages and abilities. Our mission is to inspire and engage individuals to achieve health, fitness, and training goals through the sport of running. We are a registered affiliate chapter of the Road Runners Clubs of America (RRCA), the oldest and largest organization in the United States dedicated to distance running, and a 501 c(3) non-profit organization. Athens Road Runners is governed by a volunteer board of directors whose members actively serve the Athens community in a variety of ways.

WHAT WE DO

We connect runners in the Classic City. We connect runners to runners, runners to races, and runners to routines. There’s a history of competitive, encouraging running in Athens, GA. The Athens Road Runners is here to honor that history and inspire the next wave of athletes. We offer structured runs throughout the week with a speed workout led by a certified coach.

We are also part of the historical running community as a registered club with the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA). In 2024, we hosted the Southern Region One-Mile Championship during our Milledge Mile Race. Our RRCA registration helps us connect runners across the region.

Individual runners, couples, and families can join Athens Road Runners and benefit from the camaraderie, encouragement, and support a running community provides. All memberships are valid for one year. Renewal outreach begins in the fall.

JOIN THE BOARD

Applications are now open to serve on the Athens Road Runners Board of Directors for the 2024 calendar year. Board members are volunteers who meet once a month to review the budget, plan upcoming events, and discuss various topics that involve the Athens Road Runners. Board members are responsible for a variety of operations, including:

  • Communications (Digital and Print)

  • Community Outreach

  • Merchandise

  • Programming and Events

  • Social Media

  • Trail Creatures, ARR’s Trail Group

In addition, there are the positions of Treasurer, Secretary, and Board Vice President and President. Board members are expected to meet in person. Athens Road Runners relies on the work of the board. Please consider furthering your community impact through service!
